Parsifal

A Mystical Drama by Richard Wagner Retold in the Spirit of the Bayreuth Interpretation

Buchbeschreibung

Richard Wagner's final composition, 'Parsifal', is a music drama that draws upon the 13th-century epic poem Parzival. The story follows the Arthurian knight Parzival on his quest for the Holy Grail. In the opening act, Gurnemanz, an elder Knight of the Grail, tends to Amfortas, the injured King of the Grail Knights. With the help of the wild woman Kundry and a vial of balsam from Arabia, they attempt to heal the King's wound. As the King struggles with his pain and shame, the squires question Kundry's intentions and seek answers about the lost Holy Spear.
