Cross Purposes and The Shadows is a fantasy novel by the Scottish fantasy writer George Macdonald. He was a pioneering figure in the field of modern fantasy literature and the mentor of fellow writer Lewis Carroll. The book consists of two stories: "Cross Purposes" and "The Shadows".
